On 13 September 2014, the Pink Sari Project was officially launched by Prof David Currow, Chief Cancer Officer of NSW and Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Institute NSW. The Pink Sari Project focuses on women from Indian and Sri Lankan communities, who have the lowest rates of breast screening in New South Wales, Australia. The project was brought together with the support of community leaders, media, health institutions, practitioners and the wider community, to help save women’s lives through early detection of breast cancer.
BCI Service Director A/Prof Nirmala Pathmanathan was one of a number of eminent Breast Cancer Health Professionals invited by the project to give a presentation at a free community information session at Ermington Community Centre on the 16 November, 2014. The theme of the information session focused on the importance of early intervention through the BreastScreen program.
