In 2017 the 17th Pink Ribbon Ride was held to raise funds for the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute (BCI). Starting in 2001, the event has raised over $1 million in funds to help BCI in their efforts to provide Western Sydney communities care, research and screening for breast cancer.
Held annually in October, the 2017 event included 700 participants (motorcycle riders and non-riders) who collectively raised over $30,000. This generous support was raised through event registrations, sponsorships and a raffle with prizes donated by event partners who jointly provided $10,000 of prizes.
People attending the day get into the spirit of the event by wearing and decorating their bikes in pink.
Over 500 new cancer patients are seen at the BCI and over 17,000 patients with known breast cancer and other breast conditions are seen each year in this very busy breast cancer unit. Apart from clinical care for breast cancer patients the BCI develops educational resources and provides ongoing support for patients with breast cancer. Funds raised from these events help the BCI in their efforts to provide the highest quality diagnostic facilities and comprehensive treatment for their patients.
Thanks to the generous support of participants, their friends and family as well as the Pink Ribbon Ride partners.
