A breast cancer diagnosis brings with it physical, mental and emotional challenges. About a third of our patients will experience psychological difficulties, and anxiety and depression are particularly common.
If you would like emotional assistance the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute has a clinical psychologist you are able to see at any point of your treatment. If you are interested in this service, please speak to your team and request a referral.
A clinical psychologist does not prescribe medication but will talk to you about the difficulties you are experiencing and offer support and suggestions about ways of overcoming them.
Psychology appointments are available on a Monday, Thursday and Friday. Some patients attend for one or two appointments, while others prefer longer term support.
Please note psychology services are Medicare billed and there will be no out of pocket cost for you.
